prompt: nura & natalia, daughters, splendorverse

The day Natalia left Splendor, she had a quiet hope in her heart. That all the people she had lost would somehow be there, in a brief instant, able to hear any sort of words she had to say. The Princess floated, in an airy limbo between the world she left behind and the world she belonged, only to hear a very quiet giggle.

"I hope you grow up strong, and brave, and I hope you realize it's okay  to cry. I hope you take after her, but for Sprock's sake, don't be too bossy like her. She's the one going to rule a country, not you. " She can hear the words, and suddenly there is Nura, with a swollen belly, a warm smile, and a wave of a braceleted wrist.

"Hey you." She calls. Natalia swallows the lump in her throat, gold eyes soft and a little sad. "Hello, Nura. It's been some time." The woman laughs, as around them the sky spins. "And you're still acting older than you are, " Nura says gently, wiping a stray tear rolling past the girl's closed eyelid, down into her cheek, vanishing in the soft, sunny curls.

"D-Don't insult me, " Natalia sniffs, but her chide is weak. Nura laughs, gently. "For some reason, the place sends us messages of the people we're leaving once we leave Splendor. " The princess pauses."..Pardon? "

Nura smiles softly. "When I left, I was wondering, "Geez, how's Nat going to turn out? And imagine my luck when I saw a  Queen standing in front of me,  it was one of the most beautiful things I'd ever seen. " Natalia looked up with confusion. "So I'm just..seeing what you wanted me to see, then? " Her gloved hand is clasped, and set on the full belly of a friend long lost.

"Yup. But you should already realize what I wanted for you without that weird place's input or not. Right? " The Princess' stares up at her with questioning eyes.

"Natalia. I'm naming her Natalia." Nura says gently, and Natalia's hand goes to her mouth, the stinging of tears, the sob already halfway out her throat, as the world spins, her hand shakes, Nura fades.

If my daughter can be as brave as you are, then I will be a good Mom. Bye, Nat.

Nura doesn't know how she knows, but as she stares at this history book on other worlds, the woman with beautiful dress, the flowing hair, the beautiful Kingdom--she knows the proud, kind eyes, and she says "Look Natty. That's her."

"That's who?"

"That's Queen Natalia. "

The child's mouth forms a soft 'oh'.

"Mom how'd you get to meet someone like that? "

Nura's smile turns wicked. "Well, you know it started in this place called Splendor--which is a fancy word for sugar, and there was a little Princess with a problem.."

Somewhere Hundreds of Spaces Away

"Sylvia Nura Kimlasca-Lanvaldear, what are you doing?" A firm voice and the clicking of heels in the royal gardens of Kimlasca-Lanvaldear is heard, as a girl with wide blue eyes, white-blonde hair, picks up her skirts and runs to her mother's arms.

"I was dreaming. "

Queen Natalia Luzu Kimlasca-Lanvaldear, Golden Queen of Kimlasca, stares with a slightly startled expression that melts into an almost sad smile, as she precedes to walk back towards the castle. "And what were you dreaming about, my little Princess?"

"Father was taking care of Uncle Peony's rappigs again! "

A bright giggle. "Oh was he really?"

"Mm-hmm!"

The sun shone on two mother's today.

End.
